Supporting Levey Day School
Levey Day School
A Community Jewish Day School
Dear Friends:
For the past five years, I have had the privilege of serving as president
of Levey Day School. In that capacity I have written to Levey’s friends
every year to ask you to donate to Levey’s annual scholarship appeal,
suggesting that it is incumbent upon all of us to support a quality Jewish
day school in our community. This year, as I write my last such letter
before happily making way for new leadership, I am looking both
backward and forward.
A few years ago, I wrote that as Jews, we often reflect on the history of
our people and our survival against great odds through the ages, but that
we thrive when we also focus on the future of our people and dedicate
ourselves to passing on our beliefs and teachings to the next generation.
More recently at Levey, we had a chance to look forward as our children
shared what they have learned with our seniors on a visit to The Cedars
to celebrate Purim with songs, skits and a costume parade. It’s
moments like those that demonstrate best what I wrote in that letter a few
years back: A vibrant Jewish community necessarily has education at its
center, and Levey Day School is the nexus of Jewish learning for the
youngest members of southern Maine’s Jewish community.
Levey provides an excellent secular and Judaic education to children in
grades kindergarten through five. Our creative and inspiring faculty offer
individualized, original, exciting work. As a community day school, Levey
focuses on the shared values of the Jewish people in a way that is
appealing to students from Reform, Orthodox, Conservative, and
unaffiliated backgrounds. Levey’s student body is also economically
diverse, because we are committed to keeping the school accessible so
that those who want a Jewish day school education for their children can
choose Levey.
Compared to other private schools, Levey’s tuition may be modest, but
almost one-third of students qualify for and receive some scholarship
assistance based on independently assessed need. Levey depends on
charitable donations to operate the school.
Please help Levey fulfill its mission by participating in our annual
scholarship appeal. Your tax-deductible gift helps make a Levey Day
School education available for a child who could not otherwise afford to
attend. You can also support Levey through its annual auction and other
fundraising programs.
Thank you for considering Levey’s needs. We appreciate whatever help
you can give.
